What will happen if I forget to square off the position before the expiry contract?

It will settle according to the logic of either Physical Delivery or Cash Settled.

Currently in NSE F&O segment all FUTSTK and ITM options are resulting in physical settlement, and in MCX according to their respective logic of Cash Settled or Compulsory Delivery.
